As a builder of communities, Jim is an active member volunteer with Society of Information Management, Boston and Providence Chapter. He is also an active member volunteer for the Ocean State Project Management Institute, developing and facilitating monthly Project Management Forums as well as previous involvement with the Humanitarian Non-Profit Outreach Program. Jim’s focus is to add value to members by planning and supporting quality programs and events. Additionally, he has been a mentor and coach in various communities such as Year Up, Greater Providence Boys and Girls Club, and Higher Education creating positive change. Jim is personally engaged with numerous industry colleagues supporting them at all levels during their professional journey. Jim serves as a board member of the Jacob D. Hansen Memorial Fund, dedicated to supporting a community of children with life threatening illnesses, their families, and those organizations that actively support this population and is an active volunteer.

    Carol Kollm, North East Agile Delivery Leader, Lean-Agile & Leadership Coach with the Eliassen Group presents: "Agile For Senior Leaders" This session will cover: · An overview of Agile from a leadership perspective The significant potential economic benefits of moving to Agile for IT & Business Projects The role of business & IT leadership in building an Agile ecosystem to sustain the Agile adoption While Agile can produce modest gains in operational efficiency, its primary benefit comes from gains in business value creation. Maximizing business value creation requires changing how business is done. Some of the specific steps in creating an Agile ecosystem include: Moving from high-volume, infrequent, document-heavy, business and IT interaction to constant interaction Moving from a function-based organization to one organized around Line of Business (LOB) value delivery Switching from all-or-none funding of mega-projects to LOB capacity funding Carol Kollm champions and fosters agile values and principles within organizations. She began her career as a software engineer/project manager, moved into business and product management, and founded a successful web boutique. She started working in agile development and “finding a better way” did not look back. Carol has consulted and coached in government, financial, telecommunications, lean-startups, and web consumer companies. All organizations, large or small, with focused intent and the backing of leadership, can improve delivery, increase agility, achieve business outcomes, and create happier work environments. Carol has over 10 years’ experience in agile roles in Product and in IT. She is a Certified Scrum Professional (CSP)), Agile Coach (ICP-ACC), Scaled Agile Program Consultant (SPC), and Co-Active Professional Coach (CPCC). Carol has been an active volunteer in Agile for Executives and Agile New England in Boston.

    Education Roundtable

    Gaurav Shah, Director of Academic Technologies, Bentley University presents: Online Learning Flavors: Picking the Right Ingredients Bentley University started an online extended classroom in the year 2000 and now offers a variety of flavors for teaching in the online modality. In this session, we will explore the different flavors and trends in online learning and alternative modalities offered at Bentley - hybrid, blended, synchronous and asynchronous. We will also discuss the ingredients (classroom and technology platforms) used to deliver our courses. The goal of this presentation is to guide you in getting started with any or all of these flavors and discuss the right ingredients required for a quick launch. We will wrap-up the session with feedback from students in our online courses.

    SIM Boston Board Meeting We are busy ramping up for the 18th Annual Michael P. Brooks Memorial and it is almost time for our next Board Meeting, which is rapidly approaching on Friday, June 7, 2019. As usual, to help get in the Golf Spirit, the meeting will be held at Cyprian Keyes Golf Club, 284 E Temple St., Boylston, MA. A full breakfast will be available beginning at 7:00 am and the meeting will get underway promptly at 7:30 am and conclude at 11:30 am. Lunch will follow from 11:30-12:30 pm and if you wish to play golf, you may do so at 12:30 pm. Please be sure to indicate whether you will be playing golf after the meeting.

Brooks Memorial Golf Outing – our 18th Annual event Whether you are new to golf, interested in learning more, or a seasoned pro, this is a great day to join and network with your SIM Boston colleagues! Supporting Chapter Community Outreach Programs The annual SIM Boston Golf Outing is a great day of fun and networking. Held at the beautiful Cyprian Keyes Golf Course in Boylston, Massachusetts, this is an event you won’t want to miss! Plus, you don’t need to hold a PGA pass to participate, so please plan to join us. BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND: SIM Boston members can choose to either play in an 18-hole golf outing or spend a half-day attending the SIM Boston Golf School (9-hole outing and instruction) and staying for dinner and the ceremony with everyone afterwards. Golf School participants will receive a one-hour lesson from a PGA Professional before playing nine holes of golf on the par 3, Executive Golf Course. Cyprian Keyes Golf Club staff will be present on the Executive Course to provide follow-up instruction. If you are interested in attending our Golf School, please register early as there are only 36 openings. If you do not own a set of golf clubs, there will be twelve sets of complimentary clubs available for you to use. The 18-hole and 9-hole outings should finish around the same time so the players may all enjoy dinner and the reception together.     SIM Boston SIM Silver Meeting

    This spring we asked our regular attendees if they had suggestions for meetings that our group would enjoy! Wow! Did we get some great speaker ideas….so we start with Hugh Kelly recommended by Mr. SIM International, Dick Dooley, a regular at Boston SIM Silver! Hugh Kelly, a Holy Cross grad. And a Boston area native with work experience as an executive in companies such as General Foods, Howard Johnson’s and Wendy’s followed by Real Estate development will share some real life experiences. Hugh will share his stories from working with the Irish political ‘system’ in New York, Boston and later other East Coast Cities. He will share stories from his book, Honest John Kelly, Truth or Satire! It should be an educational evening and a diversion from the ho-hum topics of Information technology.
