Speaker Bio: Laura De Veau serves as the Principal and Founder of Fortify Associates, LLC., a boutique consulting firm located in Newton, Massachusetts. Fortify Associates serves the higher education, not-for-profit and small business verticals on matters related to workplace optimization, strategic planning and management, and executive development. Prior to founding Fortify Associates, Laura worked in the field of higher education administration since 1989. Her expertise is in the areas of residence life, strategic planning, staff recruitment, leadership and student engagement, however, she considers herself a generalist and an individual who respects the importance of capable and visionary administration. De Veau served as the Vice President for Student Affairs at Mount Ida College from 2013 until its closure in May of 2018. A graduate of Boston University’s Wheelock College of Education and Human Services, and College of Communication, Laura holds a M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration and a B.S. in Journalism. She is currently enrolled at Northeastern University pursuing her Ed.D. Outside of Higher Education, Laura has a passion and commitment for advocacy. She has been recognized by the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center as a Champion for Change in 2008. Laura served on the Board of Directors of the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus from 2007 to 2013, and was elected to the positions of President and Vice President during her tenure on the Board. As President, she was the first straight woman to serve in this role. She is currently serving on the Board of Directors for GALA Choruses, which leads the North American LGBT choral movement. A published writer, Laura is a contributor to the book, “Lessons from the Road: Inspirational Insights from Leaders in Education,” and is currently working on her memoir. Laura is also a former stand-up comedian, and a sought after presenter at conferences and campus training opportunities for students and professional staff.
