Justin Locke, former bass player with the Boston Pops and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, entertained SIM Silver members at the meeting on Tuesday, September 10th. Locke, also an author of several books and many programs for family concerts, delighted the audience with his tales of being inside the orchestra. His travel with the orchestra, practicing (or not) with them, and his accounts of working with John Williams, Arthur Fiedler, and Keith Lockhart, had us laughing out loud.
Following his presentation, we dined at Papparazzi in Wellesley in a private dining room. This enabled us to have a wonderful conversation comparing running an orchestra to managing IT operations as well as what an artistic approach to challenging management issues.
